Luis is one of the best ropers in the area, I have know idea how he caught some of those calvesWednesday, August 26, 2009
This past saturday we went up to Pine Flat and branded some calves. It was alot of fun but also alot of work. Zeke left at 4am to get started with Alan and Tom, but Koriann and I didn't get up there until about 10am, because they had to gather the cows first so that took some time. Thank heavens that Mike and Joan Wilcox along with Luis showed up to help rope or it would have just been Zeke roping because know one else on Redd Ranches knows how to. But it was a way fun day for everyone who helped. Then on Monday we went and played like tourists in Moab. It was great, we went shopping, for a scenic drive, to the park, lunch, and we even went bowling. I forgot my camera so no pics of Monday but it was great. Koriann loved the slides and swings. When we were bowling, she would get so excited when the pins would get knocked over, she didn't even cry at all that day. I was fun to just hang out as a family and not have to worry about work. Here's some pics of branding.

Lazy Summer Days
Wow, how time flies I can't believe summer is almost over. It has been so nice down here, it's perfect weather right now. Koriann and I go swimming almost every day. She loves being in the water. We also go on long walks in the morning and in the evening when daddy gets home, fresh air does everyone good. I love being able to stay home all day and take care of Koriann, she is the greatest blessing in our lives and we love her so much. She is growing up so fast, it's sad but at the same time great to watch her learn and become more independent every day. Zeke has just been working hard as usual, he just can't seem to not be doing anything. His new hobby is our garden. Zeke take care of for the most part and he is so proud of it. It's funny to hear him talk about it, he can't wait till the melons are ready to pick. We have also just been going to the lake and helping Zeke move cows when we can. Koriann loves it, she just is so happy and content when she's with her dad pushing cows. We have a late branding on saturaday so that is always a fun event. Zeke gets to rope because no one here knows how, plus who likes to work the ground crew. So now much goes on in this household, our lives revolve around Koriann. Her's some random pics, which are way cute.

Goodbye to a Friend
So today has been really hard on us, we lost a great friend, companion, and worker. Zeke's horse that he has been riding for Redd ranches died. He was such a great horse. Our story all started together when David and Alan said that they had a horse that nobody could ride because he was very bucky and just a bronc. Well Zeke took him and had been riding him for about a month and a half and he had just turned around. He would still buck every once in a while but made was he a working horse. His name was Crook, they called him that because when he was a colt he got kicked in the head and so now he holds his head to the side because of the injury. He was a nice pretty sorrel color and stout as can be, his only downfall was that he had small feet. Crook was turning into a heck of a ranch horse, man would he look at a cow. All that Crook needed was to be ridden and put to work. So today while Zeke was rinding with Alan on the mountain gathering cows, Crook's hernia ruptured, there was nothing that could be done. All Zeke could do was pull his saddle off and put Crook down so that he wasn't suffering. It is always sad to lose a horse, even if it isn't the best horse, but it is do much harder when it's one you like. On a ranch horses are your tools of the trade, they are out their every day with you, working just as hard so you can come home. So farewell to a great horse, our friend Crook.

Dinner on the Mountain
Last night we went up with the La Sal branch and had dinner near Dark Canyon Lake. It was so fun, they have a really fun branch. It is also night to be around some younger people that also have kids. The food was excellent, charles and nate did an excellent job on the meat and the potatoes along with everyone else who helped. After dinner Zeke, Koriann, and me drove down to the lake, it's not as big as what I had remembered. It was so funny because I had been there and had ridden on the La Sals more than Zeke, and he even grew up down in this area. It was a really fun night for us all, Koriann only cried when it was time to leave, she was having a blast.
24th of July
We had the best 24th ever, we went to the ATV rodeo on thursday night, it was a blast. There was kids as young as 3 riding in the rodeo. Then on Friday the 24th it all started at 6am with the cannons going off for half and hour, along with all the police, ambulance and fire truck sirens. It is the loudest thing you have ever heard. Then we went to the parade, it was one of the best parades in years. The best part was seeing all the Derby cars. We then went home and ate lunch, then it was off too the park to see all the fun stuff they had going on, they had a really great car show this year. Later that night it was Derby time!!! It was the best Derby by far, they had the last 25 years champions do a wipeout all by themselves it was awsome. Then after was the fireworks, Koriann oved them, she was just amazed by them. On Saturday was National Cowboy Day so Mt. Pleasant had a huge cowboy expo, it was fun to go see. Later that night was the rodeo. We had alot of fun and Zeke was amazed at the size of it, it makes monticello look like a kiddie rodeo. The saddle bronc was great, a guy from Lehi scored a 89, which was the high riding score of the night. It was a wasy busy weekend but totally worth the trip. Zeke said it was the best 24th he has ever had so the made my weekend.
